Today 16th of May marks the international day of the boy child but I’m sure you didnt even know this until just now. I don’t blame you, it’s not like it’s received any kind of recognition from big corporations and global organizations.

UNESCO is not a feminist organization; it’s actually meant to cater to both boys and girls yet they didn’t even deem it necessary to give a shoutout to the boy child today. The disdain is not even subtle.

It’s a shame that big corporations make it a point to not acknowledge the boy child unless it’s for propaganda or to paint them in a bad light. This isn’t me having any issues with celebrating the girl child, it’s about faulting the blatant double standards and sexism at play here.

You can’t claim to fight inequality with more inequality. Empowering one gender and ignoring the other will only take us all back to square one. Boys and girls ought to be empowered at a similar pace.

If your defense for all this is that the boy child is already empowered by virtue of his sex and as such don’t need catering to, you should unsubscribe from my mailing list right away because I can’t push out content to people of such puerile mentality.

Today is the international day of the boy child, and I’m here to celebrate it. To the boys out there; you matter, you’re special, you’re not responsible for the sins of a handful of your gender. #Happydayoftheboychild
